Open Mat’s real gyms: the data.
RookFlow’s Open Mat shows 2,379 real gyms from OpenStreetMap. © OpenStreetMap contributors.
- The extract (JSON, 190 KB), made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0.
- The query, asked of QLever’s copy of the OpenStreetMap planet: named places with a grappling sport, and venues whose name says grappling.
The rule
A named place counts when its sport tag names a grappling sport (judo, jiu-jitsu or BJJ, wrestling, sambo, grappling, luta livre, MMA), and every sport it is tagged with is one of them; or when it is a dojo, sports centre, fitness centre, sports hall, sports club or martial-arts place and its name says grappling, in Latin letters or in its own script (柔道, 柔術, 주짓수, 유도, самбо, дзюдо, lutte and the rest). Arm, camel, mud and pro wrestling don’t count, nor do a bare “jiu”, “gracie” or “checkmate”. Names on RookFlow’s deny list are left out. A place mapped twice (the same name within 150 m) is kept once, and each place carries its nearest city from Natural Earth (public domain).
The extract is refreshed each quarter, and comes with the app’s next release. A gym missing or wrong? Fix it on OpenStreetMap, and the next refresh brings it.
